PLAYWRIGHT'S INTENSIVE
Formerly the "Garage Door Playwright's Intensive", the flagship program of our company was created to champion new works and uplift the voices of emerging playwrights.
Our digitally based intensives prioritize a connection with the global arts community at the heart of where theatrical storytelling begins: the script.
COLLABORATE
We will pair you up with an extraordinary emerging director and actors who will help you bring the words on your pages to life.
Over the course of this week-long intensive program, two playwrights will have the opportunity to work digitally with a specially curated team of artists, make edits, add pages, etc. before your final reading at the end of the week.
PRESENT
After workshopping your piece throughout the week, our Zoom-based playwrights will have the time to present a final reading over Zoom to the company and a panel of industry professionals.

At the end of your reading, there will be time for you to receive feedback on the play from the company and professionals who tune in.

IN-PERSON
OPPORTUNITIES
In order to deepen our connection with our local community, we are giving two Southern California-based playwrights the opportunity to join our team for a fully in-person intensive experience here in Anaheim, CA.
A live staged reading of the piece will be held at the end of the process accompanied by a structured feedback session with hand selected industry professionals.

Submissions for our 2023-2024 intensive season are currently CLOSED.
SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR 2023 Fall INTENSIVES ARE OPEN FROM
AUGUST 1st at 12:00am and close AUGUST 20TH at 11:59pm
Intensives will be held in week long increments
spanning Sunday-Saturday from
OCTOBER 15 TH-NOVEMBER 11 TH
4 Pieces will be selected this year.
2 zoom intensives open to writers from any geographical location and 2 in-person intensives open to SoCal resident to be facilitated in Anaheim, CA.
There is a $2 Reader's Fee for every submission sent to us to be paid by card via PayPal.
Your submission will not be read by our company readers until your Reader's Fee has been paid.
Plays must fall within the following criteria to be considered:
-One Act (Plays or Musicals)
-Full Length (Plays or Musicals)
-Unpublished
-Very Minimally or Completely Unproduced

ABOUT OUR READER'S FEE...
We here at The Larking House understand that the imposition of a fee for submissions this year is a drastic change to how our program has functioned in the past. We are confident in our decision to implement it, but we wanted to assure you all that the collection of these fees will be allocated to stipends for the artists that donate their time and talent to making our intensives happen.
We deeply appreciate your understanding, and any artist that finds this fee to be outside their means is encouraged to contact us at larkinghousetheatre@gmail.com to discuss a waiver option.
